WEST Bowling were brought crashing back down to earth against title favourites Hunslet ARLFC last weekend.

The Bradford outfit had won back-to-back National Conference League Premier Division games against York Acorn and Kells to move off the foot of the table.

But any hopes of making it three victories on the bounce were quickly dashed last Saturday, as leaders Hunslet stormed to an emphatic 66-10 triumph.

Head coach John Williams could not stop the onslaught, and nor could his players, as the rampant hosts ran in 11 tries, all of which were converted.

Bowling did at least get some points on the board, Dan Halmshaw and Elliot Cousins both crossing the whitewash and Harry Williams adding a couple of points from the kicking tee.

Stanningley were also beaten in Division One, and have now lost six of their opening nine games.

They were not at the races at home to Waterhead Warriors, and were beaten 34-18.

Drighlington’s good start to the Division Three campaign is fast becoming a distant memory.

They lost their third game in a row, this time going down 18-16 at home to Bentley.

Kieron Roche, Chris Aked and Jake Samociuk-Barnes all scored tries for Drig, but the former only landed two of his three conversion attempts.

Bentley were perfect at adding the extras to their trio of tries, which ultimately proved to be the difference.

Over in the Yorkshire Men’s League, Keighley Albion got their first win since the opening day, squeezing past rock-bottom Newsome Panthers 12-4.

Bradford Dudley Hill will have eyes on winning Division One this season, but they were rocked by a surprise 30-20 defeat at Sharlston Rovers.

After the game, the gracious visitors admitted they had been outperformed in all departments, and that they would have a lot to work on ahead of this Saturday’s trip to neighbours Wibsey Warriors.

Wibsey have their own defeat to bounce back from, having gone down 40-22 at Mirfield on Saturday.

Brighouse Rangers extended their lead at the Division Two summit, crushing title rivals Castleford Panthers 36-4.

But Birkenshaw Blue Dogs slipped to the bottom of the table, after losing 26-6 at Illingworth ARLFC.

Wyke were humbled at York Acorn’s YML side in Division Three, slumping to an ugly 80-14 defeat.

In Division Six, Keighley Albion Academy got their first point of the season, drawing a thrilling game 32-32 with Birkenshaw Blue Dogs’ Academy, who had won one and lost two of their opening three matches.

Both of those sides have been deducted two points apiece for conceding a game, meaning they sandwich Guiseley Rangers in the table.

Rangers have lost all three of their matches so far, their latest defeat seeing them beaten 46-18 at home to Hemsworth Dragons.

West Bowling Academy were given a walkover win in the NCL Alliance Division by Stanningley.
