JOHN Davies has spoken of his excitement about the current Bradford Bulls project.

The experienced back-rower ended his eight-year stint at Featherstone Rovers’ Post Office Road in the off-season, and the Bulls were more than happy to pounce on signing one of the Betfred Championship’s most consistent players in recent years.

His influence on this young Bradford side so far has been nothing short of sensational, despite playing ‘out of position’.

With Bradford winning three of their opening four league fixtures against some tough opposition, Davies has been impressed with what he’s seen from the team so far.

The 33-year-old said: “It’s an exciting project to be around.

“I met Freddy (O’Carroll) and Jason (Hirst) at the start of the season, and they told me what the ambitions would be for the Bulls this year.

“As a player, I’m not one to plod along; I have to be competing or else it’s not worth doing. When I spoke to them, there was a real emphasis on the point of Bulls being on a real upward trajectory this year and even more so into the future.

“So, it’s exciting times for the club, the coaching staff and the players. It’s also nice for the fans to get behind a winning team.

“It’s tough for the spectators when the team are losing on a frequent basis, particularly when they pay their hard-earned money to come and watch.

“We’ve started well, so it makes it that bit easier for them to come and support us. Long may it continue because we’ve got a good group here at Odsal.”

Davies added: “On a personal note, I’m really happy to be here and with my decision to move to Bradford.

“The main thing for me is that my family are happy. They come to all the games and are looked after really well.

“Then for me, it’s a nice environment to be around and if you’re happy at work, then you tend to perform better.

“It’s quite clear that the boys have got each other’s backs and they’re all pleased to be here.”

Bradford will look to make it four wins on the bounce this Sunday when they travel to York.

Given the form of both sides, the visitors come into this one as clear favourites, with the hosts losing all four of their opening Betfred Championship fixtures.

Looking ahead to York, Davies said: “I think from our perspective, it’s really important that we continue to keep the same core within the team, as early doors you don’t want to be chopping and changing too much unless injuries force you to do so.

“It will be the same again in relation to our game plan; the amount of effort and desire to go out there and get the win will also be the same. So, it will be up to York to see if they can deal with it or not.”

Davies added: “Since this, let’s say, peculiar half-back partnership between myself and Jordan has happened, we’ve just tried to focus on keeping things simple and making sure we do the basics right.

“Once we’ve done that, we’ve tried to turn the screw on teams and although we aren’t playing the most attractive rugby league at this moment in time, it’s very effective.”
